“Peaceful Beach on the Sound”
9x12 oil on canvas board
Today we went down to the water with family and painted. This peaceful calm over the Olympic Mountain range was not to last long though... as we were nearing the finish, storm clouds came and it started to rain in the mountains across the way.

An early work... my 2nd oil painting actually...previously I primarily did watercolor, and colored pencil. “Morning light on the balcony” 9x12 oil on canvas board. This was done plein air, from life. The hanging tree leaves were a little hard, so I watched a James Gurney video that showed some hanging maple branches and then came back at the same time of day the next morning to put them in. The hanging basket on the outside of the porch railing is a crab pot, which we used nearly every week in the summer when we lived in Oregon.
Before the hanging branches were added
Close up of the hanging branches. Unfortunately this was after the light had passed.
Close up of the crab basket, also after the light passed.

“Dusk on the Cascades” 6x8 oil on canvas board Plein air landscape. Price $100.
After a week of not painting, needed a warmup before tackling my current larger project...something about painting from the photos was just not very inspiring at the moment. So I grabbed the pochade box and did this little study of the view from my studio. It was a race against time before the sun set!
